China Fuji Apple

The Fuji apple is an apple cultivar developed in the late 1930s by growers at Tohoku Research Station in Fujisaki, Aomori, Japan, and introduced to the market in 1962. It is the result of a cross between two American apple varieties: Red Delicious and old Virginia Ralls Janet (sometimes spelled “Rawls Jennet”). According to the US Apple Association website, it is one of the top nine apple cultivars in the country. It gets its name from the first part of the town where it was created: Fujisaki.

China is the world’s largest apple producer, accounting for a large portion of global Fuji production. Fuji apples alone account for more than 70% of all apples grown in China. China fuji apples are distinguished by bright red stripes on their creamy yellow flesh. It has excellent quality and shape as a result of growing in ideal weather conditions. It has a sweet, firm, and crispy flesh. Bite into them raw for a quick and tasty snack, or use them in traditional pastries such as apple pie.

Fuji apples are round in shape and have a longer shelf life than any other variety of apple, even without refrigeration; and it can stay fresh for up to a year with refrigeration.

Recently when I migrated to UAE, I found a Korean Supermarket near me and when I went over there, I found all the korean food products. I brought this China Fuji Apple and it was really fresh, sweet and crispy.

Fuji apples are a relatively new type of apple. They were first bred in Japan in the late 1930s, but were not introduced to the international market until 1962. They are a successful cross between two American varieties, Red Delicious and Virginia Ralls. Janet Fuji apples, known for their sweetness, have one of the highest sugar contents of any apple on the market, with approximately 14g of sugar per 100g. Use sweet fuji apples in jellies and tea to make them even sweeter. They will keep in the fridge for three months. Separate damaged apples from the others to keep them fresher for longer. Apple peel is high in pectin, a type of soluble fiber. Pectin has been shown to help lower cholesterol and blood sugar levels.

An apple is a good choice because it has a low GI (which prevents blood sugar spikes) and is high in fiber, which aids digestion (aiding sleep). Soak sliced apples in a mixture of 1 tbsp lemon juice to 1 cup water to keep them from browning. Drain and refrigerate in a sealable plastic bag for up to one week. Between April and October, crisp fresh fuji apples are at their sweet juicy peak. To add freshness and crunch to salads, cereal, and coleslaw, finely slice Fuji apples.
